Star Trek: Discovery has turned into quite the hit for CBS All Access, and for the second season several new additions were made to the cast. Among those added were Anson Mount and Rebecca Romijn, who played classic Trek characters Captain Christopher Pike of the USS Enterprise and the member of his crew Number One. While it wasn’t known going in what the plans were for the characters for later seasons, it’s now been let out that neither will be moving beyond season two.

Deadline is reporting that their sources told them that both Mount and Romijn has one year deals, and were only signed to be part of the season 2 story arc. The plans were to sync up Discovery with the original Star Trek by the end of the season. Of course if plans are to keep with the original Trek cannon, that means Mount’s character Pike may be heading towards a tragic ending. In the original series Pike was only captain of the Enterprise for the pilot episode, and eventually ends up paralyzed, disfigured and mute. In the recent movies Pike was killed in the second film by Kahn, although that film series takes place in a different universe and doesn’t match up to any of the previous films or TV shows that came before it. This could also mean that Captain Kirk may make an appearance in season 3.

Mount’s time on the show hasn’t been the easiest, considering he was involved in a physical altercation with one of the directors in August of last year during the filming of an episode. At the time the incident was reviewed by CBS HR and they determined that the incident was just an accident as the actor was preparing for an upcoming scene and made contact with the director before cameras started rolling.
