Make sure you don’t crack your iPad Pro’s screen… or it will cost you big time

If you have bought the iPad Pro – Apple’s newest (and, according to a review by a certain journalist who is moving to Twitter soon, “ridiculous”) tablet with a massive 12.9-inch Retina display – you might want to be very careful not to break the screen. Why? Because you will be presented with a massive bill just to fix it.

According to Apple’s support page, fixing the cracked screen through Apple will set you back AU$949, plus AU$19.95 shipping fee. For that price, you can just buy the 128GB Wi-Fi only model of the iPad Air 2 – which costs AU$959.

I should note that the $949 service charge only applies if you have not purchased AppleCare+ for iPad, which comes with “up to two incidents of accidental damage from handling… subject to a service fee.” Just make sure you read the terms and conditions as Apple will not consider “protection against normal wear and tear, theft, misplacement, reckless, abusive, willful or intentional conduct” as accidental damage.

Of course, you can find places that will repair the screen for less than what Apple is charging (or you could do it yourself – but it is not for the faint of heart). However, not many places are offering iPad Pro screen repair services as of writing.

So if you are accident-prone with your devices, just be super-duper careful with your new iPad Pro.
