If you are in Toronto and happen to spot a celebrity, or two, or three in the downtown core over the next couple of weeks, you don’t have to wonder why. TIFF 2019 is right around the corner, and all eyes will be on the city as hundreds of films will be screening. Some films will be hitting regular theaters within the next couple of months (and in some cases a week or two), and some of them may take a couple of years. If you are looking to catch a couple of them during the festival though it can be tough making a decision on what to see, but we’re here to help. Here are the top films you may want to see.

Joker: Enough really can’t be said about this film that retells the Batman nemesis’ origin. Joaquin Phoenix has put on a performance of a lifetime playing the character, and after the ovation it got during the Venice Film Festival the buzz has only grown stronger. It’s not a comic book movie either, even though the character came from the medium. It’s more of a dramatic story that shows a slow descent into madness.

Judy: Renée Zellweger plays the iconic Judy Garland in this biopic that focuses on Garland’s trip to England where she tries to restart her career. Zellweger sings, dances, and puts on a performance that might just earn her another Oscar.

Hustlers: Jennifer Lopez, Constance Wu, Cardi B, Keke Palmer, and Julia Stiles star as exotic dancers who rip off  their Wall Street clients. The film is based on a true story and looks to be a crowd pleaser.

A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood: As usual, Tiff has plenty of biopics to choose from, and in this one Tom Hanks plays Mr. Rogers. The film has been highly anticipated since its announcement a couple of years back, and it tells the story of the children’s TV host’s friendship with a reporter.

Knives Out: With a cast that includes Daniel Craig, Toni Collette, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ana de Armas, Chris Evans, Don Johnson, Michael Shannon, and LaKeith Stanfield, you know this murder mystery is sure to be a hit. With a wide release in November, you know the studio is hoping for a blockbuster as well.
