The Premier League is an English professional league for men’s association football clubs. It is consisted of 20 clubs. It is commonly referred to as the English Premier League (EPL).
The Premier League is a corporation in which there are 20 member clubs that act as shareholders. The Seasons of Premier League runs from August to May, with teams playing 38 matches each (playing each team in the league twice, home and away). Totaling 380 matches in the season are organized. Most of the matches are played in the afternoons of Saturdays and Sundays and the other games during weekday evenings. Presently it is sponsored by Barclays Bank and is officially known as the Barclays Premier League. The first season of Premier League was started in 1992-93 and Manchester United was the first champion. Manchester United has a record of 13 titles. The current championship of the Premier League was awarded to Chelsea against Manchester City in 2014-15 seasons.

By the turn of the 1990s the downward trend was starting to reverse; England had been successful in the 1990 FIFA World Cup, reaching the semi-finals. UEFA, European football’s governing body, lifted the five-year ban on English clubs playing in European competitions in 1990.
At the end of the 1991, a proposal was tabled for the establishment of a new league that would bring more money into the game overall. The Founder Members signed the Agreement on 17 July 1991. The newly formed top division would have commercial independence from The Football Association.
