The Walking Dead’s ratings may not be what they once were, and the series star may have departed, but AMC is not quite ready to give up on their hit series. The network announced yesterday that their longest-running scripted show has been renewed for a tenth season.
The Walking Dead’s showrunner, Angela Kang, made the announcement on Instagram yesterday, just a few days before the show returns for the second half of season 9. All that was posted was a video clip of the Whispers with titling over top that said “TWD, S10 October”, with the caption “Season 10! #twd #thewalkingdead”. Of course this was enough to get fans excited all over again.
While the show has seen it’s ratings decline in recent years, the show still outdraws many TV shows. So far season 9 is bringing in 5.2 million viewers an episodes.
Along with season 10, there are a trilogy of movies starring Andrew Lincoln on the way, although no word has been given as to when they can be expected to air. Lincoln of course left the series earlier this season. Long time series star Lauren Cohen also reduced her time on the series as well.
