The Handmaids Tale Season 3 Ineligible For Emmys, But The Series Will Still Enter Race

The Handmaid’s Tale doesn’t want fans to forget how good it is, so even though the upcoming season 3 won’t be eligible for Emmy contention this year, the Hulu drama is still entering the race using a few episodes of Season 2 instead.

When Hulu announced that The Handmaid’s Tale wouldn’t be returning until June 5th, it was thought that the show would simply take a year off from the Emmy’s. After all the show would have had to have premiered before the nomination cut-0ff date of May 31st. Instead of doing that though, they’ve decided to use the final three episodes of Season 2, which were ineligible last year for the same reason, as their focus for nominations. Hulu is submitting Daina Reid and Mike Barber for the Outstanding Directing category, as they directed two of those episodes.  They also submitted Bruce Miller and Kira Snyder to the Outstanding Writing category, as well as actress Cherry Jones for Outstanding Guest Actress and Bradley Whitford for Outstanding Guest Actor. Other categories The Handmaid’s Tale is trying to compete in this year include Cinematography, Production Design, Music, Costume Design, Hair-styling, sound editing and more. While Hulu has submitted all of the above, it doesn’t necessarily mean any of them will get nominated. We’ll have to wait for the Emmy’s to make that announcement to find out.

The Handmaids Tale has had a lot of success at the Emmy awards over the last two years, so it’s not surprising that Hulu would like to keep the ball rolling. Whether it helps or not is yet to be seen.
