Today, Sonos is releasing a free software update called Trueplay, which allows Sonos owners to precisely tune their speakers for the room without the need for specialised equipment. Using the Sonos app, the microphone on your iPhone or iPad, and a special tone that’s emitted by the Sonos speaker, the system analyses the profile of the room and determines the best configuration for the room – in less than 60 seconds.

“Trueplay is a major step in Sonos mission to bring music fans a great experience at home without compromises. And we believe a great experience is one that also stays current,” said Sonos Chief Product Officer Marc Whitten. “The original PLAY:5 now features Trueplay, so a speaker that was released more than six years ago is going to have its best year yet after it was discontinued.”

Trueplay is compatible with the original and new Sonos Play:5, the Play:1 and the Play:2. Sonos have mentioned that the Trueplay tuning technology will be added to speakers in the future as well. To get started, update to the latest Sonos iOS app and open the Room Settings.
