One of the world’s most famous film festivals is about to take us to a galaxy far, far away. Deadline scooped the story yesterday that the latest Star Wars film Solo will premiere at the annual festival in France, and now Cannes has confirmed it this morning.

Cannes has been keeping tight-lipped on which films they will be showing during their festival running from May 8th – May 19th, but they might have a hard time topping this one. The film won’t be competing for any of the awards when it screens on May 15, but that doesn’t mean they will have a more popular selection. The Ron Howard directed film has had some notable issues as it was getting made, namely the firing of original directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, but it is still one of Spring’s most anticipated films. It stars Alden Ehrenreich as a young Han Solo, telling his story of where he came from. Harrison Ford of course originated the role in 1977’s Star Wars. Donald Glover, Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson, Paul Bettany and Thandie Newton also star.

This won’t be the first time a Star Wars film has premiered at Cannes. George Lucas took his 2002 and 2005 prequels Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith to the festival as well.
