Sega Files New Valkyria Chronicles Trademark

valkyria chronicles

Valkyria Chronicles was a criminally underrated classic SRPg when it launched on the PS3 back in 2008, and time has only been kind to it. Its PSP exclusive sequels weren’t quite as good, but it was still a shame when Valkyria Chronicles 3’s localization was passed over by Sega- a fate that a whole lot of late cycle PSP exclusive games seem to have met.

The series at this point seems to be mostly dead, the recent excellent PC port notwithstanding, but a new bit of good news will probably come as something of great interest to series fans- Gematsu is reporting that Sega has filed a new trademark that seems to suspiciously recall Valkyria Chronicles: Aoki Kakumei no Valkyria, which translates to Valkyria of the Blue Revolution. It fits the series’s Japanese title conventions to date, which means that a new game may be announced soon.

Of course, let’s not get too excited, because any number of things could happen that would be disappointing for fans of the first game, in spite of Sega’s recent assertions that they want to win fans’ trust back- the game could be a new, mobile game exclusive spin off. It could be exclusive to the PS Vita. Or, in the absolute worst case, it could be stuck in localization limbo, like so many great Sega games are.

Still, though- it seems as though the IP may have some life left in it yet.
