Sarah Michelle Gellar To Star In Horror-Movie Inspired Olay Super Bowl Ad

With the Superbowl just a little more than a week away, we are finally starting to get a glimpse of what to expect when it comes to the commercials. One of the most intriguing so far is an Olay commercial starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, and the company released the first teaser yesterday to help get us ready for it.

If you’ve followed Gellar’s career you know that some of her biggest roles have been in horror films. From slasher movies, such as Scream 2 and I Know What You Did Last Summer, to ghost stories like The Grudge, Gellar has spent a big part of her career running away from, or being killed by, horror movie baddies. Of course she is most famously known for killing such characters as Buffy, in the long-running TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. For the new ad though, called Killer Skin, it appears as if Gellar is going to be more inspired by her film roles instead of the TV show.

The teaser doesn’t show much, other than Gellar getting her face ready while a killer stalks the house. Olay appears to be giving viewers a scare-filled commercial, but since it is a commercial it will probably be much less scary than it appears. Gellar did tell EW though that “You want to have something that makes people excited, maybe flashes them back to something that they remember, makes them jump out of their seat,” so maybe it’s going to be scarier than expected.

Olay wanted to make a commercial starring women, considering they state that almost half of the NFL fans are women, yet only a quarter of the Super Bowl ads star women. They’ve gathered more than Gellar to help out for the ad as well. They’ve put together what they call the “Fearless Nine”, which including inspiring women such as gymnast Aly Raisman, sportscaster Kay Adams, and plus-size model Denise Bidot.

The Super Bowl airs on February 3rd starting at 6:30pm, and will feature the New England Patriots taking on the Los Angeles Rams.
