Samsung has announced the latest phone in the company’s Galaxy Note “phablet” lineup – the Galaxy Note 4. Featuring the same 5.7-inch display, the phone will feature many upgrades found at the Galaxy S5 (such as the fingerprint reader in the home button) and improved S-Pen functionality.

Other S5 improvements coming to the Galaxy Note include Fast Charging, Ultra Power Saving Mode, and water and dust resistance.

Promising a “much more authentic pen experience” with the S-Pen, it has handwriting recognition, calligraphy and fountain pen support – all thanks to the the increased sensitivity of the screen. S-Pen also includes a more user-friendly Air Command function, Action Memo, Screen Write, Image Clip and Smart Select.

In terms of the camera, the device features a 16-megapixel rear camera with a Smart Optical Image Stabliser, designed to counter-balance shake and extend exposure time in dark settings. The front-facing 3.7-megapixel camera can take photos in 90-degrees and 120-degree shooting angle, with the latter helping you to take better group shots and selfies.

Hardware-wise, the phone comes in either a 2.7GHz quad-core or 1.9Ghz octa-core (two quad-core processors clocked at 1.9GHz and 1.3GHz) variants. Other specs include 32GB of internal memory (expandable with microSD card, up to 64GB), 3GB of RAM, NFC, and Bluetooth 4.1 support.

The phone supports LTE Category 4 and LTE Category 6 bands, and will run on Android 4.4 KitKat.

No word on Australian availability, but Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy Note 4 is coming. “Samsung Electronics Australia can confirm that the Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note Edge and Gear VR will be launching in Australia later this year. We will confirm local pricing and availability for each product closer to local launch,” a spokesperson said.
