Ever since Deadwood went off the air in 2006, fans have been clamouring for a revival. The series followed the stories of several characters living in the town of Deadwood, South Dakota, a town full of corruption and crime. It ran for three seasons, and starred Ian McShane, Timothy Olyphant, Molly Parker, Paula Malcomson, John Hawkes and more. While the revival hasn’t been given the official green light to move forward, it’s appearing more likely the the show will start production next fall.

Over the summer at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, HBO programming executive Casey Bloys said that “The one thing that I was concerned about was I wanted a script that would stand on its own. [Series creator] David [Milch] totally delivered on that. I think it’s a terrific script. If we can do it on a budget that makes sense for us, and if we can get the cast together, we’re inclined to do it.” Now sources have told TVLine that HBO is ready to move forward with a revival movie. Whether that means the show will only return for a movie, or a limited series, is unknown as nothing more has been said about the project.

It has long been rumoured that the revival would focus around a real life fire that took out over 300 buildings in 1879, and it appears as if some of the cast have read the script that confirms that rumor.
