The Star Wars films have always been big on secrecy. From George Lucas to 20th Century Fox and now to Disney and J.J. Abrams, whoever was looking over the films made sure to keep the plots secret and the scripts hidden. In the past, before the internet, it was a little bit easier to keep these kinds of things under wraps. Nowadays though one little slip up can cause a whole lot of panic, which was the case for the latest Star Wars movie.

Director J.J. Abrams appeared on Good Morning America yesterday, and during his interview he revealed that a copy of the script for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker actually leaked onto eBay. “They were really nervous about anything getting out, and so they had only a handful of scripts, and they were printed on crazy, uncopy-able paper. And then one of our actors, I won’t say which one — I want to, but I won’t — left it under their bed and it was found by someone who was cleaning their room. And it was given to someone else, who then went to sell it on EBay,” Abrams said.

Abrams went on to say that someone at Disney saw the script for sale, and got it back before the auction was completed. He didn’t say how they did that, or what they had to do to get it back though.

In the past Mark Hamill talked about how he had to read his script in a locked room, and was not allowed to take it home with him to read. Each page was also printed on dark paper, so no photocopies, or even photos could be taken of it. Each actor as well were only given specific pages, and weren’t allowed to know the real ending of the film until it was being filmed. And even then lines could change without them knowing it.

“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” will be released on December, 20, 2019.
