Cinderella is about to get a face lift, and singer-songwriter Camila Cabello will bring her to life.
Sony Pictures announced yesterday that they’ve found their Cinderella in Cabello, and that the original idea for the fairy tale re-telling from late-night talk show host James Corden was finally moving forward. Kay Cannon, best known for writing the Pitch Perfect series, wrote the script and will be directing the film that is on a fast track to production. The new version of Cinderella will be music-oriented, but still follow the traditional story of an orphaned girl living with her wicked stepmother and stepsisters. The story has been made into a film multiple times, with the best known being the 1950 Disney animated feature. Other versions include the 1997 version starring Brandy and Whitney Houston, and the 2015 version starring Lily James that kicked off Disney’s live-action remakes of their animated features.
The Cuba-born Cabello came to wide-attention for being part of Fifth Harmony, before launching a solo career in 2017 and scoring the huge hit Havana. Her debut album, Camilla, debuted at number one on several charts around the world. Cinderella will be her acting debut.
