Telstra threat MyRepublic finally launches in Australia with super cheap, gamer-geared NBN plan

Singapore-based ISP MyRepublic has finally announced today that it will be opening its doors to Australian customers on November 15, promising unlimited data and the “ultimate” internet experience for gamers and streamers – but only if you live in a NBN-connected area.

They say that their MyRepublic Gamer internet plan are engineered to deal with the litany of issues that Australian gamers face when playing online, such as latency, connection instability, and slow upload speeds. There will also be no data caps, and speeds are up to 100Mbps/40Mbps.

Dubbed a “Telstra threat” by the tech press when it announced its intention to enter the Australian market last year, MyRepublic currently has a presence in Singapore, New Zealand and Indonesia. The company has a history of ‘shaking things up’ in the industry by offering cheap prices for super-fast internet. When it launched in Singapore in 2014, it forced its competitors – SingTel (who owns Optus in Australia) and StartHub – to reduce their prices.

“MyRepublic has always been enabling people to enjoy the ultimate online experience,” CEO of MyRepublic, Malcolm Rodrigues, said in a statement.

“We are excited to be launching in Australia later this month and believe that our entry will drive a new era of internet connectivity in Australia, similar to what it did in Singapore, New Zealand and Indonesia.”

The Gamer internet plan will cost you $69.95 per month on a 12 month contract. However, if you visit them at the PAX Australia show floor or online now, you can sign up for $59.95 per month (again, on a 12 month contract). You will also get a coupon to get $200 off the new PlayStation 4 Pro, and the wi-fi modem for $1. This offer expires on February 28 next year.
