PRP for Hair Loss

PRP or Platelet Rich Plasma therapy is one of the upcoming techniques that is being increasingly used for skin rejuvenation as well as addressing hair loss. It is a non-invasive and non-surgical method of treating hair loss in both men and women. Platelet Rich Plasma or PRP is rich concentrated plasma, containing around five times the number of platelets than what you have in normal circulating blood.

Who can undergo PRP Therapy?

If you experience thinning of hair and bald pattern hair loss, your dermatologist may recommend PRP therapy for you. However, undergoing this therapy can get a little difficult if you have lost all your hair. This therapy can only thicken the currently thinning hair by strengthening the hair follicles.

How does it work?

PRP uses the body’s natural healing systems and processes to speed up recovery or to enhance the look of your skin. It is also used to rejuvenate hair and stop hair fall.

A small amount of blood is first withdrawn from your body, which is almost the same that you would give for any blood test. Once the blood is withdrawn, it is then spun around in a fast centrifuge. This spinning separates the plasma from the red blood cells. The plasma is rich in platelets and has healing and rejuvenating properties. The plasma helps in regeneration of tissues and also heals hair loss, owing to the fact that plasma is rich in platelets. The plasma is then injected into the hair or may be rubbed as per the condition along with derma roller treatment on the spot where you experience hair loss.

For best results, PRP therapy will require around eight sittings, each two weeks apart and medications such as Minoxidil. Hair growth usually starts from the fourth week of having undergone the therapy. PRP therapy strengthens the follicles as well.

Numbing cream is applied for better PRP procedural experience.
