Even if Google’s third-gen Pixel sales have lagged, it’s a foregone conclusion that the company will launch another generation of Pixel phones later this year. The fourth-gen Pixels are still shrouded in mystery, but a new leak courtesy of OnLeaks does reveal a few details. One thing we can say for sure is the Pixel 4 will have a big-honkin’ camera hump.

Google has gone all-in with computational photography in the last few years, and as a result, the Pixel phones take the best photos around. They do this with modest hardware compared with many other smartphones.SEEAMAZON_ET_135 See Amazon ET commerce They have just a single rear camera when Samsung, OnePlus, and others are using two, three, or even four rear cameras. Based on the new leak, the Pixel 4 will have a large square camera hump similar to the Mate 20 Pro.

We can’t see from the render how many cameras are in the square, but I’d wager it’ll be at least two conventional image sensors. There may also be a time-of-flight (ToF) sensor and flash or some other combination of things to fill the space.

There’s something else unusual about the back of the phone — there’s no fingerprint sensor. This could mean one of two things. Either the fingerprint sensor has moved under the screen like the OnePlus 7 Pro or Galaxy S10, or there’s no fingerprint sensor at all. We know that Android Q will include support for secure 3D face unlock, but would Google go full Apple with the Pixel 4 and ditch the fingerprint sensor? Well, it did think the notch on the Pixel 3 XL was a good idea, so yes, that’s possible.

The render appears to show just one front-facing speaker (the earpiece). So, the Pixel 4 will probably change the current dual-speaker configuration. The bottom speaker and top speaker combo can still provide stereo sound similar to Samsung’s phones. It won’t be as good as having two speakers on the front, though.

Google probably changed up the speaker configuration to make room for more screen, but this render doesn’t help clarify matters. The screen outline isn’t included here. All of OnLeak’s renders are based on leaked CAD files, which typically don’t have the screen. There will probably be more leaks over the summer. Last year, prototypes of the Pixel 3 XL showed up for sale months ahead of the announcement.
