Optus updates mobile plans, introduces data sharing

Optus appears to be listening to its customers, as the company today announced a couple of changes to its mobile phone plans. The second-placed telco will increase the included voice and data caps on all of its My Plan products, and will allow customers to share their mobile plan’s data across multiple devices.

The $60 My Plan will now get unlimited included minutes to standard Australian mobile and landline phone numbers, and 2GB of included data. The new changes also benefit those on the SIM only plans. The $45 SIM Only plan now gets unlimited included minutes and 2GB of data, whereas the $60 SIM Only Plan gets 5GB of data.

Like Telstra, you will pay a fee to activate data sharing. However, this will be a one-time payment of $5 per device – and you will be limited to just five devices. In comparison, Telstra charges you $10 per device per month to use the feature, but limits you to four devices. Optus also notes that if you need additional data, it will automatically add 1GB once you go over your allocation for $10 per month.

You can have a look at the new plans below, with the previous plan comparison in brackets.

The new plans will begin from June 10. For existing Optus customers, you will need to resign a new contract to be able to access the increased data and voice allocation.
