Limited Edition Mini Black Commadore 64 Comes With 25 Games

If you’ve ever wanted to relive the glory days of the Commodore 64 with a bit of modern augmentation (and without all the hassle of finding a working system and compatible display), the new limited edition C64 Mini Black might be a great alternative. It comes pre-loaded with 25 of the most popular modern Commodore 64 games, adds support for save states and HD resolutions, and you can even program your own games right into it in BASIC.
Retro consoles reimagined as mini emulators are nothing new. The Commodore 64 has had several modern iterations, and you can always emulate the entire library on a PC if you like. But the new C64 Black Edition is a classy-looking thing, with iconic Commodore styling and a sleek black paint job.
Its game library is atypical, too; while the games look classic, they’re anything but. These are modern Commodore 64 games, and some of the best out there, too.

The curated selection includes Sam’s Journey, Steel Ranger, A Pig Quest, Yeti Mountain, and many more. You can control them however you like, with each C64 Black coming with multiple USB ports that support all standards of joysticks, gamepads, USB sticks, keyboards, and other accessories and controllers. It works with various game pads and third-party peripherals
The save and load system makes it easy to pick up where you left off, too, so you’re not stuck trying to finish each game in one sitting. You can always make a game with that style of play in mind, if you want, though, as the system also lets you program in your own C64 games. Think you have a shot at being part of the new C64’s curated library? Now’s your chance to find out.
Prefer the standard C64? That’s still available. And if you’d like to learn more about the era, ExtremeTech’s own Jamie Lendino wrote a fantastic retrospective on the era called Starflight: How the PC and DOS Exploded Computer Gaming.
