The story of Kapsaliana Village Hotel: A labor of love for 40 years
Originally the houses of the employees of the olive oil press owned by the close-by Arkadi Monastery’s, roughly 55 people lived and worked in the village. When Arkadi built a brand-new, modern olive press, circa 1955, in a various area, this rural town was largely abandoned until Myron Toupoyannis, the owner and a designer, made an eventful visit.

He originally bought one home and restored it, then another and another, until finally, he owned the whole town and the old olive press. It has been a labor of love, a real enthusiasm task, lasting for over 40 years, a testament to Myron’s vision honoring the history of the village.
Kapsaliana Village Hotel today
Presently, Kapsaliana Village Hotel has 18 spaces and suites to accommodate about 35 guests at any offered time. Each winter season, the structure continues. When we asked about the future plans for of Kapsaliana, Myron shared his vision: “Whatever in life and nature relocations in cycles. When we reach the point where we can accommodate 55 guests, we will have finished the journey. This cycle will be complete having actually returned Kapsaliana Town to its initial capacity.”

Arkadi Monastery

If you want an unique experience and to find out more about Cretan olive oil, also called liquid gold in Crete, the hotel provides an olive oil tasting (extra fee). Provided Vasilis enthusiasm and knowledge of olive oils, I envision this would be a fantastic experience. Unfortunately, we did not have time during our short stay. (A terrific factor to return!)
Myron, Vasilis, Bridgette (appointments) and the entire group at Kapsaliana Town Hotel do a great job of developing a relaxing, pleasurable vacation experience.
