Hyundai Mobis, the parts and service subsidiary of Hyundai, is presenting a new self-driving technology dealing with motorist fatigue at the Customer Electronics Program in Las Vegas this month.

Its software-based innovation, called DDREM, an acronym for Departed Motorist Rescue & & Exit Maneuver, checks out and analyzes indications of motorist fatigue utilizing three “identifiers” that categorize driver risk based upon a set of criteria. These identifiers consist of the use of a single infrared cam to scan the motorist’s facial and eye movement and a read of driving support systems to validate stable lane altering and other odd driving patterns.

If a motorist’s driving habits is irregular, as is the case with drooping eyes and off-lane motion, DDREM coverts the automobile to Level 4 automation mode. This triggers all or a mix of electronic brakes, radars, video cameras, and GPS information to determine a place to stopped to safety, such as a street shoulder lane or rest area. DDREM’s target is to hit a safe area in under a mile.

“Our research study method has been clinical; we are essentially working on a ‘cure’ for sleepy driving injuries and deaths,” stated David Agnew, director of self-governing automobile advancement at Hyundai Mobis North America. “Through this approach, we are developing an innovation that will save many lives and provide tremendous comfort to drivers and passengers.”

No word on when the self-driving innovation will be launched to market. However, Hyundai Mobis has suggested strategies to evaluate DDREM on actual roadways this year.

This is not Hyundai Mobis’ first news of a safe-centric discussion this week. It likewise unveiled a panoramic sunroof airbag, which triggers in case of a rollover crash within 0.08 seconds of effect. In all, the brand has declared 11 patents provided for the technology. No word on when it will enter into production.

Developed in 1977, Seoul, South Korea-based Hyundai Mobis is a manufacturer of Hyundai’s automotive parts, including brakes, suspensions, and in-vehicle electronic devices. It has more than 25,000 workers.
