Jessie Edwards scored a career high of 29 points as Minnesota held off Belmont University 75-74 on Wednesday afternoon at Williams Arena. The Gophers trailed by two points at halftime but took a six point lead into the fourth quarter.
Edwards. a 6-foot-5 junior center from Australia, scored nine of her points in the final 2:08 of the game, including two free throws with seven seconds to play that gave the Gophers a 75-72 lead.
Carlie Wagner and Kenisha Bell added 16 for Minnesota, which had lost its previous game by 40 points to No. 6-ranked South Carolina on Sunday.
Darby Maggard led Belmont with 23 points.
The Gophers raised their record to 8-4 and have one more game, against Kent State on Dec. 22, before the Big Ten schedule begins. Belmont, which is in Nashville, dropped to 6-5.
