Fisker Ocean electric SUV to be unveiled in Las Vegas, RHD planned | The Driven

The Fisker Ocean electric SUV prototype will be unveiled at the CES 2020 innovation expo in Las Vegas in early January, 2020, Fisker Inc. CEO Henry Fisker has revealed. And there will be a right hand drive version.

Posted along with new images of the “mass-volume” Fisker Ocean on Friday morning (Australian time), the announcement follows a steady stream of teasers by the Danish auto designer in the lead up to the unveil.

Fisker also responded to a follower on Twitter this morning confirming again that the Fisker Ocean will be made available for right hand drive markets, including Australia and will come with a CCS2 charging port.

The Driven has approached Fisker Inc. regarding a possible timeline for Auastralian release.

Expected to go on sale in 2022, the Fisker Ocean will be priced at less than $US40,000 ($A57,850 converted) and have almost 300 miles (480km) driving range.

In November, Fisker also confirmed that the electric SUV, which will be available from 2022, will also be offered under a leasing model.

While the unveil of the Ocean SUV prototype will certainly be exciting to see, time will tell whether it will restore some faith in Fisker’s some what dappled automotive history.

Fisker Inc is Fisker’s second incarnation as founder of an automotive company, which to date has not delivered the luxury eMotion electric vehicle it had initially planned. Fisker was previously co-founder of the ill-fated Fisker Automotive which went bankrupt after selling only 2,500 PHEV Fisker Karmas.

The high-priced eMotion was first unveiled as a prototype at CES 2018 and tipped to have a $US130,000 ($A188,000 converted) price tag, but it has since been cast aside in favour of first releasing the more affordable Ocean.

With a Range Rover Evoque-like body, the Fisker Ocean is billed by the EV startup as “the world’s greenest car” replete with vegan and recycled materials throughout, as well as in-built solar panels in the roof.

It is the culmination of Fisker’s vision for ” ultimate clean mobility company” that a representative for the Fisker Inc. stated in a note by email to The Driven has taken “all lessons learned from the past company”.

Under the proposed leasing model for the Ocean, which can already be reserved in the US for $US250 ($A361), drivers will have a generous 30,000 miles (48,280km) a year limit.

According to additional comments made by Fisker on social media channel Twitter on Wednesday, the Ocean electric SUV will also house a “unique battery pack solution” to avoid loss of range in cold conditions such as snow.

Fisker is also teaming up with US-based EV charging network provider Electrify America – that was borne out of German carmaker Volkswagen’s settlement over the 2015 “Dieselgate” scandal – to supply a limited amount of free charging.

Fisker also confirmed via Twitter that although a production location has already been decided upon its location will not be announced at this time.
