Nvidia and AMD have a number of features that you can only enjoy if you’re running the latest generations of their respective graphics cards. However, you can get around much of this with some fantastic third-party tools. A new report from VideoCardz reveals that the beloved DLSS Enabler is offering 5x and 6x frame generation for anyone running a recent generation graphics card, not just those with the latest RTX 50-series GPUs.
Upscaling and frame generation are among the most useful technologies released by top GPU makers in recent years. They enable much higher frame rates for smoother, more playable games with little impact on visual quality. However, DLSS is locked to Nvidia cards, DLSS frame generation is locked to RTX 40 and 50-series, and multi-frame generation is locked to just the RTX 50-series. AMD’s FSR 4 is locked to its RX 9000 cards and doesn’t support multi-frame generation at all.
Enter the third-party apps.
DLSS Enabler works on AMD, Intel, and Nvidia graphics cards of any generation (even pre-RTX) and offers both dynamic upscaling and frame generation, with new support for up to 6x frame generation. Not every game is natively supported, but most are if they already have some form of DLSS support. Ironically, the multi-frame gen feature doesn’t actually use DLSS, but AMD’s FSR, despite AMD not officially offering it.
However, this version updates FSR 3 to FSR 3.1 and adds DP4A-based improvements for FSR3 MFG code on supported hardware. It also adds dynamic frame generation alongside its new options, letting you set a desired frame rate, and the engine will adjust frame generation automatically to try to hit it.
For even greater options, including frame generation up to 20x and a wider selection of upscalers to choose from, you can also buy Lossless Scaling on Steam. For $7, you get a whole host of upscaling and frame gen options, and they work in almost any game, too.
