Zendaya Set To Star In And Produce “A White Lie”

21 year old singer, dancer and actor Zendaya is about to add another credit to her name, movie producer, as she prepares to star in and produce the thriller “A White Lie”.

“A White Lie” is based on Karin Tanabe’s book “The Gilded Years,” which tells the true story of Anita Hemmings, the first African-American woman to graduate from Vassar College. Hemmings was a light-skinned African American who pretended she was white so she could attend Vassar in the 1890s. She was the daughter of a janitor and the descendant of slaves, but managed to pull off her deception and make friends with a girl who comes from one of New York’s wealthiest families. She’s treated as a wealthy, educated white woman, and even finds romance with a Harvard student. Unfortunately however her secret treads on thin ice, especially when her friend becomes infatuated with her light skinned brother. 

Zendaya will produce the film under Reese Witherspoon and her partner’s company Hello Sunshine. She was in this summer’s blockbuster film “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” and will be seen next in December’s “The Greatest Showman” as trapeze artist Anne Wheeler, with Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron.
