Sony has officially announced its next flagship smartphone, the Xperia 1 VII. It will have a familiar design to recent Sony flagships and comes in Moss Green, Orchid Purple, and Slate Black.
Inside, the Xperia 1 VII will run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. It includes 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, with no higher storage options. This sounds less until you learn that, unlike most phones nowadays, it allows users to add up to 2TB with a microSD card.
The phone runs Android 15 out of the box, and Sony says it will get four years of OS updates and six years of security patches. It comes with a 6.5-inch FHD+ OLED display with Bravia TV technology, and is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and supports a 120Hz refresh rate.
Sony has added new camera and audio technology to the Xperia 1 VII, as reported by our colleagues at PCMag. The triple rear camera setup has a 48MP main sensor, a 48MP ultra-wide sensor, and a 12MP telephoto sensor.
For audio, Sony’s Walkman engineers helped tune the device, adding a high-performance audio circuit and gold in the headphone jack solder, which Sony says will reduce transmission loss.
The phone is to have stereo speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and support for Hi-Res audio, LDAC, and Dolby Atmos formats. The Xperia 1 VII also has a 5,000mAh battery with both wired and wireless charging, IP65/68 water and dust resistance, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.
Sony has not confirmed whether the device will be sold in the US or Canada, but it’s already available for preorder in Europe, Japan, and the UK at a price of €1,499 or £1,399, which is about $1,700.
