Google Photos to Add Instagram‑Like Text Editing Options in Upcoming Video Editor

Google is planning yet another upgrade to the Photos app, this time for video editing. An expanded range of text editing options will let users add text in various fonts, sizes, and colors to their videos, much like they would in Instagram Stories and Reels. The new text editor is found in version 7.49 of the Google Photos app for Android, Android Authority reports.
Currently, the Photos app accommodates only basic text, using a single font and seven color options. The new version adds more control, letting users choose from multiple font styles, text alignments, and dozens of colors and shades. A new text highlight option also lets users add a solid or translucent background to make the text stand out.
The fonts in Android Authority’s video look very similar to Instagram’s, although they have slight design differences and unique names. The wider selection of colors should make it easier for users to match the text’s aesthetic with that of their video, even if the app seems to lack a color picker or automatic color suggestions like Instagram.
Google has not said when or if this upgrade will roll out to all users, as the feature is still being tested. If released more widely, it could make Google Photos a more competent tool for quick and effective video edits, reducing the need for third‑party apps.
