Samsung has a new rule, and it comes with the release of the One UI 7 beta update for the Galaxy A55: Users can only download the beta update through a Wi-Fi connection. This is a change compared with earlier devices like the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S24, Galaxy Z Flip 6, and Galaxy Z Fold 6, which did not have this restriction.
The announcement for the Galaxy A55’s One UI 7 Beta Program mentions, “Starting this year, you can only download the Beta version in a Wi-Fi environment,” as reported by SamMobile.
The update for the Galaxy A55 supports Android’s seamless update process, where system updates are installed in a secondary partition in the background. This may need stable and uninterrupted connectivity, which Wi-Fi is better suited to provide than mobile data.
Samsung has not yet explained why there is a limit. However, there are some possible reasons for this. Wi-Fi connections are usually faster and more stable than cellular networks. This helps reduce errors when downloading large updates. It also prevents excessive mobile data usage for users with limited data plans.
People living in areas with poor internet connectivity may face delays in downloading updates and accessing new features or fixes. For now, this rule applies only to the Galaxy A55 but may expand to more devices in future updates.
