Whether you’re keeping an eye on a sleeping baby, a mischievous pet, or anything else, these cameras deliver solid performance at good prices. They’re unobtrusive and power-efficient, able to be placed on bookshelves, mounted on walls, or otherwise hidden. Here are some nice price cuts on indoor smart cameras.
Let’s lead off with a solid little camera at a decent discount. TP-Link’s Tapo 2K is one of the more flexible indoor cameras we’ve seen, with a 360° horizontal and 114° vertical range field of view. It swivels and tilts to focus on whatever you want it to look at, capturing it all in 2K video and storing it to a microSD card or in the cloud with a TapoCare plan (purchased separately). Connect it to your Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant device to control it with your voice from anywhere in the house, and get instant push notifications for movement or noise.

Here’s another affordable low-profile camera that’s perfect for casual monitoring, thanks to 1080P HD video and color night vision. If you want to store recordings, the included SD card slot lets you do so in person, and you can also sign up for a Wyze Plus subscription (starting at $1.67 a month) to keep footage in the cloud. If it does detect something that isn’t there, you can trigger the 40lm built-in spotlight and mini-siren to scare them off. This works indoors and outdoors with an IP65 rating, but an additional power adapter is needed for safe operation in the outdoors.

The globe-shaped housing of this thrifty little room monitor allows it to move around extensively at your remote command, focusing on suspicious areas with ease. PCMag reviewed the Kasa Indoor Pan/Tilt Smart Security Camera, saying that it “delivered very sharp 2K video in testing, with bright and saturated colors during the day.” The companion app is a breeze to use, with easy mechanical pan and tilt controls as well as two-way audio and real-time motion and sound detection. It also integrates with smart home networks so you can do things like turn lights on when the camera picks up motion.

Amazon’s Ring smart security cameras are notable for their unique low-profile cylindrical casing, which contains surprisingly high-quality components for the price. In PCMag’s review of this unit, the site said it “remains an excellent camera for keeping an eye on the inside of your home, especially for existing Ring users.” The second-generation model added color night vision and a mechanical privacy shutter to keep out prying eyes. For advanced cloud features like remote video storage, you have to shell out for a Ring Protect Plan, but even without one, you get accurate motion detection, a siren, and more. The app is a breeze to use and networks with multiple cameras and other smart devices easily.

The latest version of Amazon’s outdoor camera is a real bargain right now, with a $60 price cut putting it in a very competitive space. PCMag reviewed the Blink Outdoor 4 and gave it an “Excellent” rating, writing that it “continues to offer long battery life and reliable Alexa voice control support.” This model increases the camera’s field of vision to 143 degrees for more expansive coverage, and it’s completely simple to install and has solid battery life. You’ll need a Blink subscription plan, starting at $5 a month, to enable advanced features like person detection and cloud video storage, but the $60 you save will pay for a whole year.

Arlo makes reliably good security cameras. They’re not the most subtle, but they deliver good quality footage—in this case, in full 2K. PCMag has a review of the Pro 5S camera, where the site said it “offers nearly every feature you could need,” including dual-band Wi-Fi, a low-power mode, and support for the company’s SecureLink technology. 12x zoom lets you really get in close to prowlers for effective identification, and the 160-degree field of view is wide and clear. Color night vision is an additional perk. The battery’s runtime is up to eight months between charges, so you don’t have to climb up and pop it out more than once a year.
Arlo Pro 5S Spotlight Security Camera 2K for $150.03 (list price $249.99)
PCMag gave an Editors’ Choice award to the eufyCam 3 S330 in its review, saying it “features a built-in solar panel for continuous charging, captures detailed 4K recordings, and offers intelligent alerts with subject detection.” Not having to worry about battery charge is a huge perk with these, justifying their higher price. You always do better when you buy in bulk, and this bundle comes with a trio of cameras and a HomeBase 3 hub that lets you store footage without a subscription fee. Throw in color night vision and even facial recognition and you have a high-end camera suite fit for a celebrity.
eufy Security 3-Camera Kit for $479.99 (list price $679.99)
Not a mammoth discount, but even saving $10 is a nice incentive for this durable and reliable outdoor camera. Capturing full 2K video, the TP-Link Tapo Outdoor Camera can withstand all kinds of bad weather thanks to its IP66 water and dust rating. The footage it captures can be transmitted to the cloud or stored on an internal SD card. Dual integrated spotlights and an 850 nm IR sensor combine to give you nearly 100 feet of visibility at night, and a built-in siren lets you scare off any evildoers.
TP-Link Tapo 2K QHD Outdoor Security Camera for $34.99 (list price $44.99)
In general, smart security cameras that deliver alerts to your phone or other devices will need to be integrated into your Wi-Fi network to work. However, there are models on the market that do not. Some can connect through a LTE wireless data plan, and others use exclusively local storage. That said, for the most comprehensive coverage you’ll want cameras that connect to your home network.
The amount of time footage is stored depends on the storage mechanism used by the cameras. For cameras with internal storage on an SD card or a remote hub, that amount is determined by the size of the card or drive. For cameras with cloud-based storage subscriptions, typically a larger amount of data is stored. For example, Amazon’s Ring subscription plan lets you store all of your video for up to 180 days.
Both indoor and outdoor cameras share many features, including motion detection and notifications. Indoor cameras are typically smaller and more lightweight, while outdoor cameras are sturdier with more protection from the elements. Outdoor cameras often also incorporate spotlight features to illuminate the area they cover.
