It’s hard to tell if the geese were impressed by Landou’s early season skill as they go strutting away from the solitary golfer at Whitetail Golf Course this day.
Surrounded completely by the Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge, Landou is working his way around this gem of a golf course located in the heart of the Bitterroot Valley.
Sweeping his hand toward the towering Bitterroot Mountains that provide the backdrop of the Whitetail Golf Course, Lanoue just grins.
Created sometime back in the 1930s well before the creation of the refuge the nine-hole golf course has stood the test of time.
“Our high school golf team golfed here.
This year, the course has a brand new golf pro who hopes to encourage a few new people to come out and give the course a try.
He served as the golf pro for 24 years in Hamilton before venturing into the Missoula golf scene for a time.
On any course, Lehtola said a golf pro is kind of a jack of all trades.
His job is to manage all the golfers, offer golf lessons, set up new programs and make sure all the deposits are made on time.
Back out on the course, Lanoue said it’s a place where anybody can give golf a try.
