PS4 Users Need to Upgrade If They Want to Play the Next CoD

Activision has confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will be the last game in the franchise to support PlayStation 4. Black Ops 7 was launched on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, but the next version coming this year, widely reported as the next Modern Warfare title, will not arrive on PS4, as reported by PlayStation LifeStyle.
Treyarch and Activision say they chose to have Black Ops 7 on PS4 and Xbox One because the game uses technology that can run on these older systems without making compromises on new systems, even as the studio focuses on higher‑end experiences on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
Black Ops 7 has a story campaign set in 2035, a full multiplayer suite with new and returning modes, and a Zombies mode. PS4 players will keep receiving seasonal updates, new maps, and other live-service content for Black Ops 7. They will have the same access as players on newer consoles or PC.
For PS4 owners, this news means that support for existing Call of Duty titles will continue, but they should not expect new mainline releases after Black Ops 7.
The 2025 entry effectively closes the chapter on more than a decade of annual Call of Duty games on PS4. Players who want to play future Call of Duty titles will need to plan for a shift to newer hardware.
