Ryan Reynolds Doesn’t Know If Deadpool 3 Is Possible

Deadpool 2 is heading towards a record opening weekend of over $150 million, and the first film broke all sorts of records for a rated R film, yet series star Ryan Reynolds doesn’t know if a third movie is possible.

“I don’t know that there would be a ‘Deadpool 3,’ I really don’t,” Reynolds told Entertainment Weekly. “I feel like the character, in order for him to function properly within his own universe, you need to take everything away from him. I don’t think that you can keep doing that.”

Of course another thing going against a third Deadpool movie is the fact that 20th Century Fox is set to be acquired by Disney later this year, and Disney may not want to make a restricted superhero film. Still, even if a third Deadpool movie isn’t in the works, Reynolds still thinks the character could appear as part of a team.

“I do see him as being a part of X-Force, obviously. I would love to see him in a team-up sort of thing, like a mano a mano or a great female character from the X-Men universe,” he said to EW. “I just think if you’re going to do another Deadpool solo film, you’ve got to really, like, get that budget down to nothing and just swing for the fences, and break all kinds of weird barriers, and do stuff that no one else can do.”

X-Force is set to debut in Deadpool 2, and a film for the team has already been announced, with Ryan Reynolds attached to star. Drew Goddard will write and direct, with Zazie Beetz and Josh Brolin set to co-star as Domino and Cable.

Deadpool 2 opens on May 18th.
