Nvidia RTX Super GPU Pricing Leaks, and It's Shockingly Reasonable

Nvidia is preparing to launch three RTX 40-series Super GPUs on Monday. Though we have a good idea of what the specs will be thanks to previous leaks, pricing has remained a big question mark. The existing RTX 40-series cards are largely considered to be a bit too expensive for what they offer. Nvidia is allegedly looking to counter that narrative by competitively pricing the Super GPUs, which should make many gamers happy. As always, until we hear Jensen announce them on stage, we’ll have to keep our powder dry. But these prices sound rational, which is a big deal in the GPU world.
The Super pricing has reportedly been leaked to Moore’s Law is Dead on YouTube by an Nvidia employee. Why any company employee would jeopardize their gravy train by leaking to the press is beyond us, so take these numbers with a grain of salt. That said, the alleged pricing starts with a shock: the RTX 4080 Super will be priced at $999, a $200 reduction from the original card. This would put the card directly in line with the Radeon RX 7900 XTX while presenting a compelling value to big-budget gamers because the RTX 4090 is no longer available at MSRP. The Super version is rumored to get only a small bump in performance, of around ~5%, but at this price, gamers won’t mind too much.
Though the 4080’s price is rumored to be dropping significantly, the recipe for the remaining two GPUs is essentially “a lot more performance at the same price.” This is the strategy the company followed with its previous Super cards from the Turing era, and given how expensive things have gotten in the GPU world, it’s surprising to see it make a return. Regardless, the RTX 4070 Ti Super and 4070 Super are rumored to be offered at the same price as the existing cards, which are $799 and $599, respectively. At the same time, both GPUs are expected to receive significant upgrades, making their rumored pricing even more surprising.
The RTX 4070 Ti Super will get an upgrade to 16GB of memory, along with a spec bump that should give it an overall 15% boost in performance. This GPU will allegedly replace the existing card in the lineup. The RTX 4070 Super will hold steady with 12GB of memory but will get around 20% more CUDA cores. At the same time, the original card will stick around but have its price dropped to $549, putting pressure on AMD’s $499 RX 7800 XTX.
We’ll have to wait until Monday morning to see what the reality is. But if these rumors hold up, it could silence many Nvidia critics who have accused the company of overzealous pricing with its 40-series GPUs. AMD might even respond with some price drops to combat Nvidia’s aggression, proving how stiff competition benefits all gamers once again.
