It’s hard to believe that it’s almost been a year since Reese Witherspoon revealed that a third Legally Blonde movie was on the way. It was last June where she confirmed the news, and got everyone excited by the prospect of more Elle Woods. But what’s happened since then?
While speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Witherspoon revealed that she was having a “great time” working on the storyline, and couldn’t wait to share it with the world. “She’s a very beloved character,” Witherspoon told ET at the Big Little Lies season two premiere in NYC on Wednesday. “You just want her to go on a hero’s journey like she does in the first movie, and I’m having a great time working on it.”
The first film was released in 2001, and told the story of a sorority queen who decides to follow her ex-boyfriend to law school after he dumps her. The 2003 sequel continued her story, this time as a postgrad who heads to Washington to support an anti-animal testing bill. Witherspoon didn’t give any hints as to what the third film would be about, but she did say that “[We have] a script, but we haven’t shot anything.”
Legally Blonde 3 is set to hit theaters Valentine’s Day 2020, so filming should start sometime this summer.
