Kuznetsova Battle At Miami Open

Three-time Miami Open champion Venus Williams kept up her winning ways in South Florida, rolling past Romania’s Patricia Maria Tig, 6-3, 6-0, to reach the fourth round, where No.7 seed Svetlana Kuznetsova awaits.

“I thought she played well and has a great game; every game was competitive.” Coming off a strong win over Beatriz Haddad Maia to start the week, the American overcame the early exchanges to find her form by the seventh game, and didn’t drop another after 70 minutes on court.

Tig was in the midst of her best week since last spring, when she surprised Sloane Stephens and Madison Keys en route to the quarterfinals of the Mutua Madrid Open, but had few answers to Venus’ big game.
