Google Translate Now Helps You Practice Pronunciation in New Languages

If your 2026 resolution is to learn a new language, this one’s for you: In celebration of its 20th anniversary, Google Translate has added a new pronunciation practice tool that uses AI to help users improve their speaking skills in supported languages. Users can now listen to the correct pronunciation and practice saying the phrase themselves, with Translate offering instant feedback on how close they are to the phrase’s target pronunciation, The Verge reports.
In the Google Translate app on Android, users can enter text, get a translation, and tap the speaker icon to hear the phrase at normal or slower speeds. They can then tap the new “practice” and “pronunciation” buttons, speak the phrase into the microphone, and view on-screen guidance that highlights which parts of the word or sentence need improvement.
For example, the tool can break a word into syllables and display phonetic hints to improve pronunciation.
Google is rolling out this feature to Android users in the US and India, with support for languages including English, Spanish, and Hindi. The company expects to expand to more markets, operating systems, and languages over time.
