Fantasy Island Movie Starring Michael Pena On The Way

One the oddest shows to come out of the 70s, Fantasy Island, is getting another reboot, this time as a feature film starring Michael Pena.

Fantasy Island ran from 1977 – 1984, and had 154 episodes. The show starred Ricardo Montalban as the mysterious Mr. Roarke, the owner of the island who would grant any wish for a price. Of course the granted wishes hardly ever turned out the way that was expected. The series made a brief return to TV in 1998 with Malcolm McDowell in the starring role, but was quickly cancelled after 13 episodes and low ratings. Now the series is getting a theatrical treatment with ant-Man star Michael Pena leading the way.

The film hasn’t been given a release date as of yet, but it will be directed by Jeff Wadlow, who directed Kick-Ass 2 and Truth or Dare. Writers Chris Roach and Jillian Jacobs are currently working on the script as well. Pena’s most recent role was in Ant-Man and the Wasp, and will next be seen in Clint Eastwood’s The Mule and the upcoming fourth season of Netflix’s Narcos. He’s also currently filming a live action version of Dora the Explorer.

There are no plot details or release date at this time, but the film is at least a couple of years away.
