Jennifer Lawrence may have been in more movies between June 1, 2016 and June 1, 2017, but Emma Stone made more money. The 28 year-old Oscar winning actress was named the highest-paid actress of Forbes annual list for the first time.
For the last two years Jennifer Lawrence has been at the top of Forbes list, but this year she dropped down to number 3 with earnings of $24 million. Directly ahead of her is Jennifer Aniston with $25.5 million. It’s Emma Stone though who takes the top spot this year with $26 million.
Emma Stone’s large paycheck mainly comes from hit Oscar-winning film La La Land, which also helped the actress win her first Academy Award. It was her only film credit over the last year. She will next appear in Battle of the Sexes with Steve Carell, a role that is already garnering more Oscar talk. Jennifer Aniston continues to make movies, but really it’s her endorsement deals with companies like Emirates Airlines, Smartwater and Aveeno that account for her vast fortune. Jennifer Lawrence did release two movies last year, X-Men: Apocalypse and Passengers, but both didn’t perform as well as expected at the box office after being panned by critics. Her next film, Mother!, directed by her boyfriend Darren Aronofsky will be released next month.
Melissa McCarthy and Mila Kunis were fourth and fifth respectively on the list, with earnings of $18 and $15.5 million.
