CONCORD, N.C.– Late in Sunday’s race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Chase Elliott was picking up speed inside the leading 10.

After he took a beginning position beyond the leading 25 last weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway and turned it into a 10th-place outcome, he was looking for his second successive top-10 finish.

“We were simply attempting to be solid today and make the many of exactly what our NAPA Camaro had, and I believed we were doing a respectable job of that,” Elliott said. “Sort of like we did recently, attempting to get a bit much better.”

On pit road right before the start of the last sector, quick work by the No. 9 team permitted Elliott to jump from ninth to fifth for the ensuing restart. When the green flag waved, he leapt up to fourth.

“I believed we were getting a bit of momentum,” the motorist of the No. 9 NAPA CAR PARTS Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 stated. “We had a great pit stop there and acquired a bunch of spots on pit road, got ourselves inside the leading 5 and might run with them for a few laps.”

However with less than 85 laps to go, a vehicle got loose underneath Elliott, rising the track into the No. 9 Chevy and, ultimately, the wall.

“He just got loose on the bottom there and I was, unfortunately, the man that was up leading,” Elliott described. “Simply type of there at the wrong area in the incorrect scenario and headed home early.”

The resulting damage ended the No. 9 team’s day early. Elliott was scored 34th.

“It takes place, and it’s regrettable,” the chauffeur stated. “Nothing you can do, just carry on down the road and hope that next week goes a little better.”
