Black Panther Continues To Make Box Office History

It’s hard to believe Black Panther opened almost two months ago, mainly because it continues to not only make money at the box office, but also because it still consistently being talked about by fans and the media. And now it’s made yet another record.

This weekend Black Panther passed by Titanic for third spot in the all-time highest grossing films in North America. With its $8.4 million earned this weekend, the film has now earned over $665 domestically, which is ahead of Titanic’s $659.5 million. That is quite an accomplishment for a superhero film. As amazing as the film has done though, it’s unlikely to catch the two films ahead of it.

2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens holds the record with $936.7 million, while 2009’s Avatar sits comfortable in second with $760.5 million. Neither of these have been adjusted for inflation either.

If you are curious where Black Panther stands in the global box office record books, currently it’s in the tenth spot with $1.29 billion grossed to date.

Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman ain the titular role, and tells the story of the new King of the fictional country of Wakanda and his struggles to hold onto his newly obtained power. Wakanda is an African country that keeps itself separated from the rest of the world so that they can keep their technology and science to themselves. The film also stars Lupita Nyong’o, Michael B. Jordan, Danai Gurira, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker and Andy Serkis.
